MUAY THAI
Muay Thai is a martial art derived from Thailand. It is referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” or the “Science Of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight “points of contact”, as opposed to “two points” (fists) seen in Western boxing and “four points” (hands and feet) used in sport-oriented martial arts.
Our classes have a friendly and motivating atmosphere to help you develop both physically and mentally. Safety is a top priority at the Renzo Gracie Academy and proper control is emphasized during training. To accommodate your busy schedule, we offer classes during the mornings, afternoon, evenings, and on Saturdays.
Beginners Class
The Beginners class is a fun and basic introduction to Renzo Gracie Muay Thai, where students learn how to kick, punch and use their knees and elbows, in addition to learning how to hold pads and work with partners. Through simple but effective 2-4 strike combinations, during 2-3 minute rounds, new students are introduced to our formula of consistency, pad work, combinations, tempo and most importantly safety.
Advanced Class
This class is a more intense version of the beginner class, still working within the same formula of consistent pad work, combinations, tempo and safety. Here we introduce the more seasoned student to a wider variety of complex combinations and longer rounds in a more intimate class environment. The longer rounds lend themselves to a more fitness based class, where less emphasis on the basics allows the students to get a bit more creative within the structure of the predetermined combinations.
Mixed Level Class
These classes operate on the same formula as the other classes but we allow all levels to train together. This is a great opportunity for newer students to see how more senior students conduct themselves in class, and more importantly, to get a feel for the proper way to hold pads. Mixed level classes are also a chance for the instructor to bring a more personal touch to the lesson plan.
